Prosthodontics

Tooth loss has a great influence on the harmony of the stomatognathic system and is not only an aesthetic problem. Masticatory (biting) forces are distributed unevenly among the remaining teeth and their supporting structures, which can lead to the development of periodontal disease. Tooth loss effects the surrounding teeth as well, they to begin to shift and change their position, which further disturbs the harmony in the mouth and leads to complications in prosthodontic rehabilitation.

When one or more teeth are missing, they need to be replaced in order to have a full set of teeth. For example, if a tooth is extracted from the lower jaw, it will cause changes not only in teeth in the same jaw, but in the opposite jaw as well.

Such changes can lead to painful temporomandibular joint dysfunctions which can be difficult to reconstruct later. Therefore, a single missing tooth will have many consequences and is never just an aesthetic problem and should be replaced as soon as possible. In completely edentulous patients, complete dentures are made with high precision which give excellent functional and aesthetic results.

If you already have complete dentures and are not satisfied with their fit, quality, or function, it would be best to have new dentures made.

We also treat problems related to the temporomandibular joint disorders. If you notice any interference or pain while chewing, speaking, sleeping or while playing sports, we strongly recommend you come in for a check-up. Patients who undergo treatment with stabilization splints often are extremely satisfied with the achieved results.
